Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQ)

An EVOC Certification (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) is required in Florida for EMS professionals who need to legally and safely operate ambulances and other emergency vehicles.

Our Florida EVOC course blends self-paced online learning with hands-on driving instruction, covering vehicle control, defensive driving, and DOT safety standards. EVOC isn’t just a checkbox — it trains you to make fast, confident decisions under pressure. Most agencies won’t let you behind the wheel without it — it’s a non-negotiable credential as a first responder.

Our Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers everything from regulatory compliance to advanced vehicle operation and emergency communication.

You’ll build defensive driving skills, learn collision avoidance strategies, and gain expert control of emergency vehicles — including pre-run safety checks, preventive maintenance, and route planning under pressure.

We also train you on critical driving maneuvers like controlled braking, safe backing, slalom navigation, and precision steering.

Our Florida EVOC program focuses on real-world challenges — from handling bad weather and aggressive drivers to diffusing road rage and staying calm under pressure. These scenarios train you to make quick, confident decisions when it matters most.

To earn your Florida EVOC Certification, here’s how it works:

1️⃣ Enroll online to secure your spot and get access to the online training module.
2️⃣ One week before your scheduled in-person session, your self-paced coursework will unlock.
3️⃣ Complete the online portion at your own pace, anytime, 24/7.
4️⃣ Then show up to your hands-on driving training in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or Orlando.

Once you’ve completed both parts, you’ll receive your Florida EVOC certification — fully compliant, fully prepared for the demands of emergency vehicle operations.

Absolutely. Our program is designed to allow you to complete a significant portion of your EVOC training online. Once you register, you are given access and can study the self-paced online modules anytime from anywhere in Florida. However, to complete your certification, you will need to attend our in-person driving training, which ensures you have the necessary practical skills for safe emergency vehicle operation within the state. You can find the available dates for our in-person sessions on our Course Schedule page. After attending the in-person driving session you will be awarded your Florida EVOC certification.

Once you register for our in-person driving skills session, you’ll gain secure, 24/7 access to our online learning materials starting one week before your hands-on florida evoc training begins. Whether you’re in Miami, Orlando, Broward or anywhere else in the state, you can study at your own pace and on your own schedule—ensuring you’re fully prepared for the real-world challenges of emergency response.

Yes, it is mandatory. Completing the online portion is a prerequisite for attending the in-person session. This step ensures that all participants have the necessary foundational knowledge before engaging in practical driving exercises. This requirement is critical for Florida EVOC training and is required to ensure safe and effective emergency vehicle operation in real-world conditions.

Yes — there are a couple basic requirements to enroll in our Emergency Vehicle Operator Course.

You must have a valid driver’s license and basic driving experience.

These prerequisites ensure you’re ready for the advanced hands-on training we provide — from defensive driving to collision avoidance and emergency vehicle control.

Without that baseline, it’s tough to prepare for the real-world challenges EMS professionals face on today’s roads.

We understand that some organizations prefer a tailored, private training experience. If you’d like to host a Private Training Class, we’re here to help. Our private classes are fully customizable, focusing on your department or team’s specific needs while delivering a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience.

To get started, please contact our team at support@trainevoc.com with your group details and preferred schedule. We’ll work with you to design a session that meets safety standards from the DOT and NHTSA which prepares your team for real-world emergency response challenges.

Please note: To host a certification course at your location, tuition is $139 per student with a minimum of 5 students. For an instructor course, tuition is $500 per student, also with a minimum of 5 students.

Our Instructor Certification Course is available to any qualified candidate who has successfully obtained their Florida EVOC Certification through our program. While other programs typically limit who can become an instructor, we welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds across the state, allowing you to elevate your skills and share your expertise without the need of a sponsorship letter from a department. We recommend that candidates have at least one full year of ambulance operation or equivalent experience to ensure they’re fully prepared to train others in the high-stakes environment of emergency vehicle operation.

For more details on our instructor certification process and pricing, please visit our Contact Page or email support@trainevoc.com.

Your EVOC Certification is valid for up to four years, after which renewal is required. However, some EMS agencies require periodic refresher training to ensure your skills stay up to date with evolving safety protocols and industry standards. To help you maintain excellence, we offer refresher courses. For registration details, please email support@trainevoc.com.

We currently offer EVOC Certification courses in key South Florida locations, including EVOC Miami, EVOC Orlando, and EVOC Broward, with sessions in EVOC Palm Beach and EVOC Tampa coming soon. For the most up-to-date schedule and detailed information on course times and venues, please visit our Course Schedule page to find the next EVOC course near you.
